Wild
Tarabagani (Red King Crab) is the emperor of Japanese crabs — the largest, most imposing, and most dramatic crustacean in the entire seafood repertoire. A single specimen can weigh 5-10 kg with a leg-span of over 1 meter, making it a show-stopping presentation piece for celebrations and premium dining.
Technically not a true crab but a king crab (a distinction unimportant at the dinner table), Tarabagani is prized for its enormous, meat-filled legs — the thick leg meat is white, sweet, and satisfying in a way no other crab can match. Live specimens are the ultimate expression of quality, allowing the flesh to be enjoyed as sashimi as well as cooked.
Advance Intertrade sources live Tarabagani from Hokkaido's Sea of Okhotsk fishery. Given the size and cost, careful cold chain management is essential — live specimens are shipped with individual seawater/oxygen packs.
The pinnacle experience — sliced live from the leg, the sweet meat with a satisfying crunch is unlike any cooked preparation.
Legs grilled in the shell over charcoal — the caramelized meat concentrated with sweetness is legendary.
A luxurious winter hot pot — the enormous crab feeds a large table and creates an incredibly rich broth.
The traditional preparation — steamed whole and dipped in vinegar or lemon-shoyu.
